RWTH Aachen University (research partner)

RWTH Aachen University is an integrated technical university striving to meet the global challenges of our times. With its 260 institutes in nine faculties, it is one of Europe’s leading institutions for science and research. The academic education students receive at RWTH Aachen is firmly rooted in real-world applications. Work conducted in its research centers is strongly oriented toward the current needs of industry so that, while still maintaining a strong focus on their own specializations, the various competence centers also collaborate very effectively across departments and faculties in interdisciplinary groups and forums. Currently around 33,000 students are enrolled in over 100 degree courses, of which over 5,200 are international students hailing from 130 different countries. One out of every five board members in German corporations is a graduate of RWTH Aachen.

The main focus of the Institute for High Voltage Technology (IFHT) representing the university in the project is research and education in the fields of components, equipment, resources and systems for electrical energy supply. The spectrum ranges from the development of new systems and methods to the evaluation and optimization of existing equipment and established technologies. 35 out of its total of 60 staff are employed on the academic side and have many years of experience in numerous research and industrial projects, both with components and with entire electrical energy supply systems.
