Kempten University (research partner)

Founded in 1977, the steadily expanding Kempten University of Applied Sciences (or Kempten University for short) is the only public university in the Allgäu region to offer academic courses in engineering sciences, business and tourism, IT and multimedia, as well as social sciences and health. It sees itself as a cosmopolitan institution offering practical, interdisciplinary university education with an international and forward-looking focus. It attaches great importance to high-quality, practice-oriented teaching, applied research and development as well as knowledge and technology transfer. A wide range of cooperative ventures with companies provide the foundation for its application-focused study program.
Currently some 4,400 students are enrolled in 19 degree courses. The university employs around 100 professors and 200 lecturers, plus approximately another 160 non-academic staff working in administration, faculties and laboratories. The campus features modern lecture halls, laboratories, a library and student canteen. Partnerships with around 80 universities worldwide enable students to complete part of their studies abroad.

The Kempten University for Applied Sciences is represented in the project by the Department of Electrical Energy Technology in its Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Alongside teaching, this department focuses mainly on the transmission of electrical energy, the planning of energy supply networks, electromobility (e-mobility) and applied battery research. Other main areas include renewable energy, power electronics and electrical drive technology.
