What are the aims of IRENE?

Today our electricity distribution networks are facing new challenges. The volatility inherent in feeding in electricity generated from photovoltaic and wind power plants can jeopardize the stability of the grid. In attempting to identify solutions to meet these challenges, IRENE has four key goals:

• Enable the integration of e-mobility in low-voltage networks. Used intelligently, electric vehicles can relieve the load on the grid.
• Problems arising in connection with high feed-in from photovoltaics can be counterbalanced by using a real-time control system.
• The times power is generated from photovoltaics should be coordinated with charging up electric vehicles and stationary batteries.
• Harnessing cost-effective information and communication technologies.
